About The School
North Mumbai Welfare Society's High School is situated in the sylvan surroundings of Rifle Range, Ghatkopar (West). On January 26, 1962, a few idealistic South Indian residents of Ghatkopar (West) came together and envisaged a model English medium school. The result was the birth of North Mumbai Education Society. "We had a glorious dream of erecting a temple of learning on a little know spot in Ghatkopar, where children from all walks of life could come together to learn. We also hoped that in years to come, we would carve out a niche for ourselves in Mumbai", averred by all the members of the managing committee of NMWS. The journey from a simple garage to a full-fledged high school with well-equipped classrooms, activity rooms, prayer hall, library, laboratories, computer section and a mini-auditorium is a success story in itself. Approximately, a hundred teachers and staff members impart knowledge to the 3000 students studying in it.
The School has a track record of acquiring 100% results in SSC board examinations and is proud to have many merit holders. Furthermore, it has a track of imparting education of the highest quality to its students, including teaching of Hindi, Marathi, Sanskrit, its Vedas and Shastras, thus preserving and nurturing the rich Culture, Tradition and Heritage of our country.

Particular emphasis is being given to Sanskrit which is a subject for study from std V.  Special coaching for Sanskrit examinations  is being imparted to students by the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan. “Sanskrit day” is celebrated periodically to focus attention and importance of
the language.

Late Shri V. K. Krishna Menon was a well wisher of the society and its school. As a tribute to him,
a great orator,  the Shri V. K. Krishna Menon, inter-school English Oratorial Contest was introduced in 1984 and is held every year . A shield prize, in the rotating basis, is awarded to the
winning schools.

Various workshops and seminars for teachers (stress management, positive attitude etc.) and students (personality development, motivation, study techniques, time management etc.)  are being held periodically.

The School is environmentally conscious and houses a nursery filled with medicinal plants and herbs on its Terrace Garden. Students help their teachers maintain the nursery and receive practical knowledge in Botany and Vermin-Culture.
Mr. M. V. Kamath, a renowned journalist and former Editor of the Illustrated Weekly of India, complimented th school by saying, "The past is merely the prologue", at the Silver Jubilee celebrations of NMWS, where he was the Chief Guest. Now past its fortieth year, having held a glorious and grand Sapphire Jubilee celebrations, the school is ready to take on bigger challenges in the future. With the life-sized statue of the Goddess Saraswati in its prayer hall, extending her grace and blessing on all, the NMWS High School is set to succeed in all its endeavors!
